There is no better feeling than the movement of life Inside your womb. The physiologic process of birth is simply and carefully designed. Women's bodies are designed to grow, birth, and nourish babies. From the time you come to know that you are pregnant to the last days of pregnancy, let us check how your body gets ready to give birth to a beautiful new life into the world.

Pregnancy Week By Week

The pregnancy period may last up to 280 days or 40 weeks. When your body starts exhibiting different signs of pregnancy choose either a urine test or a blood test. Both tests measure the presence of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in your body. HCG is a hormone produced by the body when the embryo gets itself attached to the uterine lining. The entire pregnancy period can be broadly classified into three divisions. They are:

1. First Trimester - From conception to 12 weeks

2. Second Trimester - From 12 to 24 weeks

3. Third Trimester - From 24 to 40 weeks

First Trimester

From the first month (your gestation starts) to the third month of your pregnancy constitutes the first trimester. During these 12 weeks' time, the brain, spinal cord, and some other organs of the fetus are developed. The heartbeat of the baby also begins within the first trimester. On an overall basis, during the first trimester we can calculate the following things:

1. Confirmation of pregnancy

2. The heartbeat of the fetus

3. Estimating the due date

4. Close examination of uterus, cervix, placenta, and ovaries

5. Check for ectopic pregnancy

Second Trimester

From the 13th your second trimester starts. The range of the second trimester is from thirteen to twenty-four weeks. Your healthcare provider will perform an anatomy scan ultrasound - 2-D ultrasound, 3-D ultrasound, and 4-D ultrasound scan to check for the growth of the baby. These scans help doctors to determine the sex of your baby. Small movements, kicks, and punches from your baby can be experienced by pregnant women during your second trimester. An anatomy ultrasound scan can reveal the below-listed info about your pregnancy and baby in general:

1. The position of your baby

2. Determining the gender

3. Chances of multiple pregnancies

4. Possibilities for Down syndrome

5. Check for birth defects, availability of oxygen, levels of amniotic fluid

6. Diagnose two conditions namely, placenta previa and placental abruption

7. Calculate the length of the cervix

8. Diagnosing the problems related to ovaries and uterus

9. Detection of intrauterine death

Third Trimester

Massive weight gain happens during your third trimester. The third trimester is accompanied by different bodily issues like swelling and pelvic discomfort. From weeks 24 to 40, pregnant women successfully complete her pregnancy cycle and contractions occur when your body is physically ready to deliver your baby.
